October 2011
Okay, Ladies. I’ve kept my eyes on all of the fashion gurus and here is are the HOT new looks for the this year’s Fall Season.
Ladylike Glamor
Not overtly sexy, but more Betty Draper in “Mad Men”. Accentuating curves without flashing too much skin. Keep an eye out for pieces like these:
- Full-skirted dresses
- Small handbags
- Kitten heels
- Tailored pieces
- Defined waistlines
- Pencil skirts
- Pearls or faux pearl accessories
Fur and Fleece
Expect to see fur, shearling and fleece items in magazines and in stores. This includes fur and shearling coats, vests, hoodies, and even fur-trimmed boots and gloves. On a budget? Look for faux fur versions as it is much cheaper than the real thing. And if you’re an animal lover, your conscience is clear.
Animal Prints
Leopard print coats, dresses, scarves and even boots made their way down the runway. With animal prints, a little goes a long way. We suggest wearing only one animal print piece. The great thing about prints is that they’re simple to reproduce, and you should be able to find them easily.
Accessories, Accessories
Accessories take a look from boring to beautiful, adds splashes of color and style and they’re not expensive! You can change the look of an ensemble just by adding the right scarf or bracelet.
This fall look for knee socks, leopard-print bracelets and scarves. Fur or faux-fur handbags and clutches. Ankle boots. Ladylike gloves. Geometric necklaces. Metallics. Bold watches. One easy rule of thumb: Right before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory. Keep it simple and stylish.
I’m always happy to help you find the look that fits you.

Fall 2011
Layering is hot and it is the perfect technique to disguise body flaws or to extend the wear of your wardrobe pieces. But layering successfully can be a little tricky. So here are some guidelines.
- The longer the garment, the closer to the bottom or the bottom layer.
- The thicker the garment, the closer to the top.
- Use contrasting colors as a single color creates that not so attractive big blob look.
- Lighter colors look better when worn under dark colors.
- Layering tends to cut your body length, so if you’re on the short side, layering may not be for you.
Layering clothes include scarves, belts, vests, leggings, sweaters, unbuttoned blouses, short dresses, short tops and long tops. Look in your closet to see what items you might be able to use in your new hot layering look. If you’re missing anything, check with The Clothes Closet. We can help you create those hot layers.
